Monster Trucks
(Bedfordshire)
In
Brief "Very
large, very powerful, very good fun!"
Review
The
experience began at a purpose built cabin, overlooking a large muddy
circuit with two rather conspicuous monster trucks warming their
engines. The staff were very welcoming and offered everyone
tea and biscuits before the event began.
There was no escaping the childish anticipation that seeing the monster
trucks gave.
The sheer height of the vehicles was remarkable - the tyres alone
were taller than an average adult! Before climbing aboard, our
assigned instructor gave a short talk about the do's and don'ts and
tips for navigating the various obstacles. Little time was
wasted and before we knew it we were climbing up the ladder and into
the driving seat.
To add to the anticipation, there were no demonstrations or trial
laps, simply a short talk about the various instruments and levers
and where we would be driving. Because the monster trucks are
dual control, there was no need to concern ourselves with the
brake! The only pedal the participants needed was the accelerator - the fun one! It was time to
start our engine...
As the throttle was engaged the huge tyres began to turn and we were
away. The sensation can be likened to sitting at the front of
a double-decker bus, as it sways left and right, forwards and
backwards over the muddy circuit. The first obstacle was a
simple row of 6 squashed cars, entombed in mud. The instructor
explained the technique for driving over them - which involved
maximum power (about 10mph) and then easing off on the other
side. The procedure was completed with minimum effort, and it
was on to the next obstacle - a row of 4 squashed cars. The
entire circuit consisted of similar lines of cars and piles of
mud. In some instances the instructor asked us to only place
the left-hand tyres on the obstacle - great fun!
In summary, the event is most suited to groups of friends or
colleagues, although individuals seeking the ultimate in 4x4 power
will inevitably enjoy it. The vehicles are as large as you
would imagine, and equally powerful. The experience becomes
increasingly enjoyable as you learn the various techniques for each
obstacle.
We would have welcomed a greater range of obstacles on the circuit,
but there was plenty of fun to be had in the time provided.
Visitors
to the monster trucks can also participate in a range of other
off-road activities including 4x4
Driving and Quad
Bikes. The
venue is well suited to offering corporate or family events.
